Building Blocks – June 2016

June 2, 2016 By Chris

Building Blocks June 2016

Welcome to the June 2016 edition of Building Blocks, the Early Years Education Newsletter from the HOPE Centre in Bromyard. We have news today about how the children at HOPE Early Years Education are prepared for primary school, plus a look at what our toddlers and babies have been doing. We’ll also have a look at what’s coming up.

Preschool at HOPE

Building Blocks June 2016Many of our preschool children will be leaving us to go on to Reception class at Big School!

We’re helping them prepare for this important transition without increasing anxiety. We encourage the children to look through our books about some of the schools they might attend. We speak with their new class teachers and sometimes they come to visit the children at HOPE.

Children leave HOPE Early Years Education having developed a love of learning. Not only have they learnt about letters and numbers and the world around them, but we hope to have fostered some learning disposition which they take with them as they continue on their learning journey.

We believe strongly that being able to concentrate, work independently and cooperatively, to be curious, to be able to ponder, to be resilient and focused are vital to becoming lifelong learners. We aim to prepare all our children to continue their journey at primary school.

Our Wonderful Toddlers

Building Blocks June 2016Our Toddlers have been learning about the weather. They think about what’s happening outside… is it raining? Is it sunny? And how does that make us feel? It may be that they feel hot or cold, happy or sad.

It is important for children to begin to be able to articulate how they are feeling especially as 2 year olds often have very strong feelings!

Children are given the opportunity each day to play outside and to experience all sorts of weather – it may be raining but we have waterproof coats and trousers. It may be hot and sunny and we talk about the need to protect ourselves from the sun and to drink plenty.

Children of this age need practical experiences of the concepts such as hot and cold, light and dark in order to grow in their understanding.

Our Beautiful Babies

Building Blocks June 2016The babies have been spending much more time outside in the summer sunshine!

It’s tea party time and the boys are pouring and serving themselves and one another cups of tea and cake.

Hand eye coordination, fine and gross motor skills and social skills are developing well.

What’s coming up?

Our Summer Fête and Graduation Service: Saturday 16th July 2016 2pm to 4pm.

All are welcome – parents/carers, grandparents and friends!

Last year was a huge success and a wonderful opportunity to start the summer holidays and round off the academic year. A chance to meet with fellow parents/carers and to spend some time with the children here at HOPE.

Details will follow, but for now please book in your diaries!

Next edition

In the next edition of Building Blocks we’ll tell you about the Summer Fête, and more. See you in a few months!
